The Lumina Difference
Why Choose Lumina Tutoring?
You choose an experienced teacher, not a tutor-matching service.
Unlike a company that matches you with an available tutor, Lumina means working directly with me, Rachel: a BC-certified teacher with more than 20 years of experience across school, private and university settings. The expertise you choose is the expertise in your lesson.
I find the learning gap, not just the answer.
Homework help can get a question finished. My teaching looks at why a student is stuck, rebuilds missing foundations and checks whether they can apply the idea independently. As a mathematics curriculum author, I understand how concepts connect and how to teach the steps between them.
My expertise continues well beyond high-school math.
I teach every first-, second- and third-year UBC MATH course, including honours mathematics. From foundational numeracy to calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and analysis, students receive teaching informed by the mathematics that comes next.
The teaching adapts to the learner.
My inclusive education and homeschooling experience informs support for ADHD, autism, mental health barriers and any IEP designation. I adapt explanations, pacing and practice while maintaining meaningful academic expectations. I also hold a Mental Health First Aid certificate.
At $90–$120 per hour, you are investing in this combination of professional teaching, advanced subject expertise and individualized attention, with the aim of lasting understanding, confidence and independence.

Searching for the best math tutor for your learner? Choose clear teaching and professional standards. Lumina offers personal tutoring for Lower Mainland students and online math tutoring across BC, including algebra, trigonometry, Pre-calculus 10, 11 and 12, AP Calculus and university math through third year, including linear algebra, differential equations, analysis and abstract algebra.
Explore West Vancouver and Vancouver online math tutoring or ADHD, autism and homeschooling support. Students facing mental health barriers or with any IEP designation are welcome. Rachel holds a Mental Health First Aid certificate.

Tutoring worked very well with my son. He has an I.E.P; Rachel was able to accommodate the lessons to fit his learning style and needs. Highly recommend!

I would not have passed Calculus without her.

Rachel makes lessons simple and easy to understand. Math is not as bad when she explains it. Thank you!
